This page explains what personal information ST Publishing collects, why, who else handles it, and how you can use your privacy rights. It covers our website, editionsst.com, and the sign-up forms we run on Facebook and Instagram. Une version française, rédigée pour le Québec, est disponible : Politique de confidentialité.

ST Publishing is the English-language imprint of Éditions ST, an independent publisher based in Québec, Canada. It is run by Sylvain Tremblay as a sole proprietorship, and it decides why and how the personal information described here is used. This policy also applies at stpublishing.ca, which redirects to editionsst.com/en.

Our privacy officer — the person responsible for protecting personal information under Québec's Law 25, and accountable for it under Canada's PIPEDA — is Sylvain Tremblay, reachable at the same email address.
We collect only what you choose to give us, and it isn't much:
The website itself has no user accounts and takes no payments: purchases happen at Books.by or Amazon, and their own policies apply once you leave our site. Browsing data (cookies, the pixel, your IP address) is covered in section 05.
We use your information to:
Legal basis: your consent. Through the website form, signing up means ticking the consent box and then confirming through a link we email you: without that click, you receive nothing. Through a Meta lead form, submitting it is your request to receive the guide and the newsletter. Either way, every message we send carries an unsubscribe link that works in one click.
We do not sell your information and we do not share it with third parties for their commercial purposes. It is used for nothing beyond what is described here.
We rely on service providers to run all this. These are the ones that touch your information, and why:
These providers are based, or store their data, outside Québec — notably in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Finland and Germany. Your information may therefore be processed in those countries, under their own rules. Nothing is sold, and we share no data for any purpose beyond what is described here.
The pixel lets us measure the site's audience and show targeted ads on Meta's platforms. As a rule, it loads only if you click "Accept" in the consent banner: until you agree, no data is shared with Meta. Legal basis: your consent.
One exception, on two pages only: the English free-guide page (editionsst.com/en/free-guide/) and the sign-up confirmation page (/merci/). If you are visiting from the United States, or from a Canadian province other than Québec, the pixel loads as soon as you arrive on those pages, without a prior click. A notice then appears and you can opt out at any time (the notice's "Opt out" button, or the "Cookies" link at the bottom of the page): opting out stops the pixel and is remembered. Everywhere else — Québec, the European Union and other countries — and whenever your location can't be established reliably (a VPN, a service error, a timeout), the pixel loads only after you agree. Legal basis: your consent (Québec, the European Union and other countries); notice with a right to opt out (the United States and Canada outside Québec).
Whether you accept or decline, that choice is stored only in your browser's local storage — never on a server — so you aren't asked again on every visit. That technical information is strictly necessary for the banner to work and is not itself subject to consent.
On those two pages, your browser queries the FreeIPAPI service to infer your country and region from your IP address, which sends it that address. We keep only the country, the region and a flag for a virtual private network from the response, in your browser's session storage until you close the tab — not the IP address, not the coordinates. This inference is used only to apply the consent rule that matches your region. Legal basis: legitimate interest in complying with that rule. It is approximate: it does not prove where you live.
FreeIPAPI is operated by a German company (Düsseldorf), and the servers of its free plan are in Europe: your IP address is therefore sent outside Québec, to Europe. Its policy provides for request logs kept for monitoring and debugging, without stating what they contain or how long they are kept, and for possible sharing of information with service providers and partners. Éditions ST does not control those logs.
Cloudflare Web Analytics measures site traffic without a cookie or any identifier that follows you between visits or across sites. Because it cannot identify you, it loads on every page without going through the consent banner — unlike the Meta pixel. Legal basis: legitimate interest in audience measurement.
The Spectral and IBM Plex Mono fonts used on the site are served from Google's servers, which shares your IP address with Google when the page loads. Legal basis: legitimate interest in displaying the site.
On the pages for L'écart, c'est vous. and its English edition, The Gap Is You., a presentation video is embedded from HeyGen's servers. Loading it shares technical information with that service, under its own policy. Legal basis: legitimate interest in those pages' functioning.
The form appears on the catalogue, book and free-guide pages. Displaying it also loads Google reCAPTCHA, which screens out automated sign-ups and receives technical information about your browser for that purpose, under Google's own policy.
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc. / Microsoft), which keeps standard technical logs, including IP addresses, as part of its own service. Éditions ST has no access to those logs beyond what GitHub makes available.
The only audience-measurement tools we use are the Meta pixel and Cloudflare Web Analytics, and the only ways we collect your information are the sign-up forms (website and Meta) and email — all described above.
In Canada. We handle personal information in line with Québec's Law 25 (which modernized the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector) and, for the rest of Canada, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Wherever you live in Canada, you can at any time:
To use these rights, email info@editionsst.com. Our privacy officer, Sylvain Tremblay, will answer within 30 days of receiving your request. If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Québec, to the Commission d'accès à l'information.
In the United States. Depending on your state, privacy laws may give you rights to access, correct and delete your data, and to opt out of targeted advertising. Sharing data with Meta through the pixel can count as targeted advertising under some of those laws — that is why you can opt out at any time, as described in section 05. We do not sell your personal information for money. Write to us at the address above and we will handle your request.
Elsewhere. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom and the GDPR applies to you, you can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
We may update this page if the processing described here changes — for example when we add a new tool or a new service provider. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
